Sonia O' Sullivan visit Scoil an Spioraid Naoimh Cailíní
Staff and students in SSNC were all a little starstruck as we had the honour of hosting a visit from none other than Irish athletics superstar , Sonia O’ Sullivan.
Sonia visited along with the organizer of Fota House Cross Country, Trevor Cummins.
Trevor had told Sonia all about the girls amazing performance at the cross country event in Fota House and Gardens and she decided that she wanted to visit SSNC to congratulate the girls in person!!
Sonia spoke to the XC team on her arrival , before heading to the halla to meet everybody else! We were delighted to be joined by some of the senior classes from SSNB also.
Everyone listened to some inspiring speeches from Ms. O Dwyer, Trevor and Sonia before the boys and girls got a chance to ask Sonia some questions of their own. A special mention too to Ellen O Donovan and Laura Healy who welcomed Sonia to the halla. The girls had only a few hours to write and prepare a speech and they couldn’t have done a better job!
Sonia then generously took time to have lots of photos taken with all of our girls ( and staff!) before she said her goodbyes.
It was an amazing morning for our girls and we are very grateful to Trevor and to Sonia for making it all happen. Interest in athletics is now at an all time high in SSNC and the competition will be fierce to gain a place on next years XC team!! :-) It’s so important to encourage a love of sport, health and fitness in our girls , and who better to help spread that message than Sonia!
What an inspiring morning for all!
